Framework

Things continue to move right along. Can you believe these 2 pictures are taken only 2 days apart?

I am really amazed at how fast this process has gone. And I’ve loved taking pictures during every step.

We had a spontaneous pizza party in the driveway one Sunday afternoon. I guess it was the first family gathering at my house. Everyone brought lawn chairs and we had a little fun with a drone.

Oh yes, the drone was so fun. We got tons of pictures and a few videos. Unfortunately it wasn’t my drone but it made me want to run right out and buy one.

Moving Dirt & Digging Holes

It seems like I waited for ever for dirt to start moving. But 3 days after they started the driveway they began moving the dirt on the back of the property where the house was going to be. My driveway is about 280 ft long. The house sits pretty far back off the road so you can imagine how much dirt had to be moved.

So Much Dirt!

I lucked out and was at the property the morning they started digging the holes for the footers. This is when I realized that THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING! This house is being built!

Well that is all for today. Next up, framing!

Step by Step, And Away We Go

As much as I wanted to document this process in real time it just didn’t happen. We are getting closer to the end and I need to start documenting now or it will never happen. They tell me that we should be able to move in the first part of July. These last 5 months have flown by.

The first part of February we staked out where the house would go…

It was pretty dreary out that day. Cold, dreary, and wet.

It seemed like I waited for ever for the driveway to go in. It was a little tricky in the beginning because I couldn’t even get onto the property. ¬†Where the property fronted on the road there was a ditch and my car would have never made it across. Neighbors were nice enough to let us use their drive until mine went in. But the dirt finally started moving mid March.

Well because I’m having issues loading pictures I will stop here. More to come though.

Building A House/Building A Home

I am building a house! I am building a house! I AM BUILDING A HOUSE!!!

I have to keep telling myself this because I still can’t believe it. Never did I think I would be doing this by myself, but here I am. I bought 3 acres in July! Now I am in the process of approving floor plans. I chose a builder and sent him floor plans that I drew up myself.

On a side note: I could sit and look at floor plans for a week straight and never find a plan that I love…or even like. Am I weird?

And…Pinterest is my best friend right now!

I found an exterior of a house that I fell in love with. Then I decided to draw up my own plans. A few tweaks had to be made, of course, because I am obviously no professional. Since I first sent in the plans I have decided to do a story and a half instead of a 1-story house. So a few more tweaks had to be made. Mainly the stairs. Right now I am waiting to get the plans back from my builder so I can either make more changes or approve them.

My friends tell me that I am going to hate this whole process. But I don’t believe them. I am super excited to start making decisions on colors, flooring, and fixtures. My whole life I have dreamed of building my own home. Let the fun begin!

So far I have gotten my driveway location approved and I now have an address.

What are your thoughts on front porches? I MUST have a porch with rocking chairs and maybe a swing. It has to be welcoming and comfy.

This will be the view in the front:

I can’t wait to document this whole adventure.
